One idea I have been thinking about, for an electric
DeLorean, is to install electric wheel motors.

This system is everything I think I would want for
electric. The regenerative braking is a big plus.
However, to extend the range and reduce the number of
batteries, I thought it would be great to use the
extra space (since the engine and trans will be
removed) for a turbine generator! Those things run on
a variety of fuels, including regular pump diesel.
I have yet to run the numbers for efficiency. I would
think the turbine generator is more efficient than a
standard internal combustion engine, but I would need
to verify that with all of the losses in energy
conversion it is still significantly more efficient.
At this point, it is just a "dream".. I will probably
wait a while until the cost come down for the
technology.
