At the time when I had to work on my speedo/odometer I noticed that
the metal axles of the odometer were in plastic supports.
I have forgotten about the bearings of te needle axle.
However, should you consider "oiling" parts there do not overdo, use
something like sewing machine or instrument oil (watches?), perhaps
teflon based oil. Better a tiny wee drop than too much oil.
