Hi all,
I believe the transmission was too long, so Jim cut the vertical square
of metal out of the center section of the chassis, at the rear of the
center tunnel. The panel which the gear linkage passes out through from
inside the center of the frame. Hope you know what I mean by that
description!
Another thing I remember is that the gear linkage was reversed - 1st
was where 2nd should have been. 2nd was where 1st should have been,
etc. All that was needed to fix this was put a pivot mechanism in the
shift mechanism, or if it was already there as per standard DMC shift
linkage, then remove it. I don't know if this was changed before Jim
sold the car onwards.
Jim took me for a drive in this car one evening in Boston - it was
seriously, seriously fast. Noticeably faster than other "fast" cars
I've been in, e.g. modified Sierra Cosworth with 360bhp, and a Nissan
Skyline GTR.
I bet John DeLorean would have loved to have seen/driven this car!
