It seems that you will need a new compressor clutch. The clutch is an
electro magnet with a lot of coiled wire inside. When that wire overheats it
might melt and actually cause a short inside. This will weaken the magnetic
field and at the same time cause the clutch to draw more current.... and
blow a fuse.
A good compressor clutch should draw 3.6 to 4.2 amps at 12V. Do the
measurement with a good quality meter. If the reading is higher than that
you have a short and need clutch will be needed.
BTW, the air gap should be .016" - .031"
You can find this information in the service manual on page N:10:04
