I'm not sure if Dave meant for the lacquer thinner to be used on the engine or the fiberglass, but I would be VERY careful about using it on the fiberglass. I used it to clean the pontoons and engine bay prior to my painting project. It does a fantastic job of cleaning the fiberglass/gelcoat but it can also remove the color and leave white streaks behind. It wasn't an issue for me as I was going to paint it all anyway, but since that's not your plan I'd be careful.
