When I get my Dakota Digital dash, I'm going to make the milage show what
the OEM odometer says. If I'm not very accurate about it, would that be a
crime?
I think the DMC odometer and GM's of the same era are probably the same or
very similar. I repaired one before (GM) and it was quite simple. The
steel pin that all the numbered wheels spin on was rusted and stopped some
of them from turning. I just took it apart, cleaned out the rust, gave it a
little oil and it was fine ever since. Chances are, the odometer part of
the speedo is a module that can be swapped. If not, I venture to say it
would be a piece of cake to make the numbers say whatever you want. As far
as being tamper proof... If you consider having to bend a few metal tabs
aside to lift a cover off... Not so.
