Religion is NOT mentioned anywhere in the constitution. About the
closest you'll ever see to any mention of religion anywhere in an
dicuments written by the founding fathers is in the Declaration of
Independance. Thomas Jefferson wrote the following:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created
equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with inherent and
inalienable rights;..."

That's it. History books are censored by people like McGraw-Hill, and
others. We all like to have this idea that the Founding Fathers were
Christian people, who set out to create a new nation, and that nation
is more powerful than all others, because we've all been endowed with
grace. The truth is actually that the founding fathers were quite
disillusioned with religion, and had seen in Europe, and specificly
the UK region, how it had been used to enslave the people, and
protituted out to serve the ill-wills of the morally corrupt.

So that is why we have the distinct seperation between Church and
State. Allow those people to practice the religion that they are most
comfortable with, and helps them as individuals make it thru life.
BUT, keep church seperated from government, so that those people who
practice a certain religion can remain free do so as they please, and
not have to be oppressed into something else that they don't believe
in. And to ensure that leaders on various levels of government do not
impose their own corrupt beliefs upon the people and enslave them
(physicly, or economicly), using religion as both leverage and
justification. The first real example of this failure has been
"Manifest Destiny".

Start by reading some quotes by Thomas Jefferson, and especially Ben
Franklin. The ideals that they hold will shock you, because they
really are so contrary to what people want to belive. Here are a
couple to get you started.

"Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact,
every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God;
because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of
reason, than that of blindfolded fear"

"For having lived long, I have experienced many instances of being
obliged, by better information or fuller consideration, to change
opinions, even on important subjects, which I once thought right but
found to be otherwise"
-Benjamin Franklin


"The Bible is not my book and Christianity is not my religion. I could
never give assent to the long complicated statements of Christian dogma."

"...Let us discard all this quibbling about this man and the other
man--this race and that race and the other race being inferior, and
therefore they must be placed in and inferior position...Let us
discard all these things, and unite as one people throughout this
land, until we shall once more stand up declaring that all men are
created equal."

For anyone out there who has an iPod, this is a link that you should
most certainly check out. It will allow you to carry a copy of the
U.S. Constitution with you to read, on your iPod with you wherever you
go. I do, and it's one helluva read. It's not boring like an
instructional manual, or even a legal agreement. It is something that
you'll really want to read (and should as an American citizen and
taxpayer).

But be warned. What you read may indeed be shocking, because you may
find that what many leaders out there who proclaim themselves to be
real Americans, actualy hold values which disagree with the true
ideals that our country really is based on.
