[DMCForum] Re: Angle Drive Cable (Joe)

The chart is still taped to my binnacle lens. I simply removed the top
piece of tape and let it flip down, suspecting that the latest repair
wouldn't last. When it indeed failed the next day, I simply put
another piece of tape on top and continued motoring where I left off.

Time is relative when you're unemployed (and between school
semesters). I just spent 3 days resurrecting a $100 chain saw. Of
course when you're unemployed you don't have $100 to buy a replacement
chain saw, so resurrecting the old one is really your only option.
This is the balance of nature -- employed people don't have time to
screw around with broken crap but do have money to simply replace it,
and unemployed people have no money to replace their broken crap but
all the time in the world to fix it.

I just can't believe that a stupid angle drive is going to whoop me. I
have Jack somebody's (new owner in Maryland) old one, but his cable is
wound backwards as well and judging from the JB Weld on its end has
started unwinding as mine did. I've discovered the hard way that once
they do that there's really no stopping the progression. Since I have
a piece of 1/8" rod premanently attached to my wheel disc I am
tinkering with the idea of opening my gear housing up and replacing
what was the remaining stub cable end with a hard metal receiver of
some sort. Angle drive will be inserted from both sides of the spindle
-- long rod from the outside and short receiver from the inside.

Or I may just move everything over to the right hand side of the car
so I won't need to worry about backwards wound angle drive cables
anymore...
