Even the big dishes are going digital (4DTV) so subscription channels
are getting scarce. But I still have more TV than I have time to watch
(tonight was the first night I watched any TV all semester, save for 1
hour about 2 weeks ago). I pay for mine a'la carte, so it's only $6
per month for the basics (A&E, TLC, Discovery, Comedy, Sci-Fi, etc). I
dropped CNN/Headline when they jumped to $2 per month.

I also have 2 black boards (in addition to VCRS). If it's analog, I
get the picture, even if sound codes aren't found. You don't need
sound for the X rated channels anyway (actually I usually just see
those scrolling by as I move up to the Independent Film Channel,
though I have been known to stop the dish when I notice the nice
people in California have figured out yet ANOTHER way to twist &
torment the human form).

Canadians are all digital now. I miss them. There used to be a
community access show from the Northwest Territory that was a real
life Wayne's World. Guy played drums instead of guitar. Sounded just
like Bob & Doug McKenzie though. CBC was good too.

Mexicans are still analog, but their signal isn't footprinted well for
us. Plus I have to watch them through a tree.

To be honest, I do most of my watching off the rooftop antenna.
Remember that our signal strength is twice as strong down here as
yours. I can pull in Raleigh, Charlotte, Wilmington, and Myrtle Beach
no sweat. Winston Salem is a tad snowy, as is Columbia. My antenna is
a 16 footer with amplification (RG-6 quad shield). Sits atop 45 feet
of mast.

It boggles my mind how much some people pay to watch TV. My rooftop is
free, and the dish is about $75 per year.

Re: unemployment "insurance" -- I wish you'd tell the nice people at
the RR Retirement Board that. They've been tied in knots ever since I
signed up for my first class. Actually tried to cut the benefits off.
Had to get my congressman's office involved to turn them back on. Idiots.
