I don't think you can install it backward.  The pins
for the pressure plate are only on one side, so it is
obvious which way it goes.

The back of the flywheel is also unfinished (Well,
mine is).

If the flywheel was backward, I don't think the engine
would even turn because the protrusion of the clutch
side would hit the engine block.
