Re: [DMCForum] Engine Conversion..

Mark,

I know you are not considering an automatic in your car, but just
incase, I thought I would give you an update.

As you know my car has a 4HP22E,  which is an electronically controlled
transmission.  Well, it seems that ZF screwed up up on the line
pressure for P N R and the transmissions prematurely fail. You can
search this on google.

This  electronic transmission was dropped and the hydraulically
controlled unit was used for almost 8 more years.  4HP22HL.   These
transmissions are fairly plentiful and the rebuilding parts are
available on line!

This hydraulic transmission with the Kennedy adaptor is fairly easy to
install.  and requires no computer.

In fact, I now have one of these transmission and am seriously
considering putting it into the Time Machine.   Then I could really
beat on it and have fun.

My electronic trans works okay, but unless I am able to reduce the line
pressure in PNR it will fail after 50,000 miles.

Since I only drive about 1,000 miles per year, this should last a long
time. BUt I can't hot rod the car, other than flat out acceleration
(which is great) without the shifts being too hard.

The computer program only controls line pressure on up shifts.   I
guess the engineers never thought about down shifts and what happens in
P, N and R.    If I was able to hack into the controller chip and write
my own software to fix this if would be great, but I am no electronic
PLC hacker wiz.  and don't know anyone who is.
