RE: [DMCForum] Re: Who maintains delorean-owners.org?

In reference to your last paragraph, I wasn't disagreeing with the potential
at all.  I was talking about having to resurrect that name due to all of the
ill feelings in the community and then build from there.  That would seem to
be more work, and expense, than trying to establish a new name and image.

If the current members of the DOA are happy with the way things are then
that would make it even more difficult to effect change.  Either way, I am
all for trying. :)

I guess you had to be there - you know, the old saying when someone
else realizes you don't quite get it.  The DeLorean Owners Association
was formed after JZD had been "busted".  I suspect, though I don't
know for sure, that someone within the group had a sense of humor and
realized that DOA had another meaning and that might get some
publicity.  The first I heard of them (I was an owner since 1982 - one
month before John's "bust") was when there was an article in People
Magazine.  The magazine had the DOA reference in the headline -
referring to Dead On Arrival - so I think the idea worked.

I agree with Robert that even though many of us are really not happy
with the DOA, it is the oldest DeLorean organization extant and, as
such, would have some built-in history/respect/clout if run as being
truly representative of ALL DeLorean owners.
