Popular legend. He was beat up by somebody. He
probably owed them money, but he could be a real SOB
anyhow and been beat up with no monetary interest.

It's not that they don't exist; it's that they don't
open their cases unless you agree to pay them X amount
of money. Saying to somebody "I'm starting a brass
quintet" immediately has them asking "How many gigs
have you got lined up?" It's one of the reasons I'm
glad I don't have to play for a living... the
emotional pleasure is sucked out of the music because
you don't care about anything but the money anymore.

Yes, so was the QCBB, etc. We're familiar with them,
but they're not much help -- although they did, to
their credit, help track down some good sheet music.
