Re: [DMCForum] DeLorean engine swaps.

I am not a Porsche expert, but thought that most of
their engines were horizontally apposed?  There is no
way they will fit in the frame of the DMC.

Depending on availability in your neck of the woods, I
would go with either the 3.5L Chrysler DOHC (found in
the Prowler, LHS, Intrepid RT, and some other cars) or
the new 6 cylinder "north star".  I went with the
Chrysler because it is mounted in the car the
"correct" way, instead of transverse.  I think it will
make the job of mounting it to the DMC frame less of a
task.

The complication you may have with any modern engine
that is not in it's own car, is making it run with an
after market engine control computer.  It can be done,
but most of the computers are expensive.

If you choose to use the Porsche trans, you can buy a
ready-made bell housing from Kennedy Engineering that
will mount just about any engine to a Porsche trans...
I opted to go with the DMC trans to reduce cost, and
(I thought) complexity...  I also wanted to make it
easy for someone to copy.  The guy I hired to do the
custom work on the bell housing has been VERY slow to
get it done, and it has cost me a LOT of time.  In
retrospect, I should have either went with the Porsche
trans for a few extra $$ or picked a more reliable
machinist!

The bell housing is close to done.  It is only missing
the mount for the slave cylinder, and the pivot for
the clutch fork...  But I will not even predict when
it will be done!
