RE: [DMCForum] Re: Moderation (Samuel)

Depending on how Ohio checks into the history of the car coming from out of
state.  Some states don't while others do.  Some states don't even recognize
'rebuilt' or 'salvage' on other state's titles so all you have to do is
transfer the car out of state, though some will re-apply the 'salvage' if
that car re-enters that state.

Tennessee just recently changed their rules, but that is how I was partly
paying for school.  I would buy a late model wrecked car, repair it, and
drive it while I had it for sale.  They had no laws at all, then went to a
percentage of the car being rebuilt, and finally to where it doesn't matter
if the car has a tiny scratch.  If it was salvaged by the insurance company,
it will have a salvaged title no matter what.

If the title Walt has for the car has never been resubmitted since the
accident, you have a very good chance of getting a clean title, though I
think it would be dishonest to pass the car along without letting the new
owner know.

Ohio must be waaay more easy on salvage titles than Florida. I just
got a salvage title vehicle ready for road use simply by fixing the
minor damage and paying $50 for an inspection by the highway patrol.
That is how I get cheap winter cars here. All they inspect for here
is that I didn't steal any of the parts I used to rebuild it, by
providing receipts for new parts. They could care less about build
quality or roadworthyness. So a salvage vehicle can NEVER be issued
a rebuilt title in Florida? Maybe I should make Walt an offer and
drag that car back to Ohio and retitle it if he has no luck. :)
