RE: [DMCForum] Bush

First of all, the Constitution does not contain the words "separation of
church and state"

secondly, this premise is not to protect either government or church, it
was meant to protect people, specifically from having a state sponsored
religion.  Period, end of story.

Also, in case you don't know U.S. history, this country was founded by a
group of white religious zealots.  There is nothing wrong with a
legislator allowing his faith to guide his action in government and
there is nothing in the Constitution that seeks to prohibit or limit
this.

Religion and politics don't mix, no matter whose side you're on.
Anyone
who waves their religion like a flag overhead (or, these days,
worships
the flag as a false idol) is going to be trouble in politics,
because
they "have to remain loyal to or serve the interests of [insert
name of
      religious denomination here]."

The purpose of "separation of church and state" is not only to
protect
the government from churches, it is to protect -churches- from
the
      -government-.

But that, it would seem, is all over now.
