[DMCForum] Corrected: A Parable

Nice parable, but it differs too much from reality to be instructive:

President Busch exercises limited power within the Housing Corporation.
He can't pass any ordinances. He's not even allowed to make the budget
or spend any money. The real decision making power is exercised by a
popularly elected board (Mr. Busch wasn't popularly elected to the
Corporation, BTW, but was forced upon it when a lawsuit from the
homeowners was cut short).

After the punks burned down the buildings next block over, housing
residents demanded an independent inquiry into what happened.
President Busch resisted. The board appointed a comission anyway over
his objections. This comission interviewed many people. Interestingly,
President Busch wouldn't let anyone from his office testify. He
himself agreed only to an informal interview, and even then insisted
he do so sitting in the lap of his somewhat mean spirited older uncle
from the basement.

Funny thing is, whereas President Busch, his secretary, the older
uncle, and a greasy haired older gentleman who tended Mr. Busch's gun
collection, all insisted that N. Sane had financed the punks, THE
INDEPENDENT COMMISSION FOUND NOT A SINGLE SHRED OF EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT
THIS CLAIM! All the people from Mr. Busch's office claimed N. Sane had
a bunch of prohibited tools in his garage, BUT THE INDEPENDENT
COMMISSION FOUND NOTHING IN THERE BUT OLD RAKES AND SHOVELS! (An
inspection department representing other neighborhoods as well as the
Housing Corporation, which had been wandering all over N. Sane's
house with his cooperation, told Mr. Busch as much it was raided, BTW).

The Housing Corporation used to be looked upon as prime real estate.
People all over wanted to live there, and the residents were
justifiably proud. But Mr. Busch's actions began to make them uneasy.
He acted as if he were a dictator. He threw neighborhood visitors into
private prisons, then promptly forgot about them (not a single one of
these visitors has ever been told merely what they are accused of
doing). Mr. Busch's staff started peeping through neighbors' blinds to
see what they were doing behind closed doors. He secretly looked
though their records and transactions. He regularly let his crazy
uncle shout threats from the front porch to scare them. So the
residents slowly turned their support towards another President
candidate...

The rest will be history (*IF* Mr. Busch doesn't rig the electronic
voting machines, supplied so courteously by his supporters without so
much as a paper trail behind them).
