I meant that the strap is used in "other applications",
i.e., non-DeLorean.  Is there any other automaker that
mounts the same type Bosch fuel pump in a piece of rubber
that looks like a bathroom plunger?

I would expect the hose to be soft.  The ones PJ Grady sells
are almost bullet proof to gasoline.  I wouldn't do the
spring thing unless I was on a tight budget.  PJ Grady's
suction screen is made where you can re-use the base and
snap on replacement socks.  The fit is generic.
