Oh yea, we twisted the torsion bar back and forth a few times but ended up
clamping vise grips on there and beating it into submission with a hammer.
I am just kidding, of course, but we did twist it several times and used PB
Blaster until it finally let go.  I think the paint had something to do with
it as well.  The passenger side was less resistant, but didn't slide out
easily.

I would never try to do this without three people, even though everything
else went very smooth.  Putting them back on may be interesting.

Greg, did you try winding the torsion bar the other way?  It
pops loose from the hinge with hardly any effort at all.
