[DMCForum] Re: Big Bad God

Genesis 9:11 -- God's out of the disaster business.

Remember: God hasn't changed (is the same now as He always has been
and always will be). *WE* have changed. We're at a point in human
history where He's given us the ball and asked us to run with it.

Look to your own life for a similar parallel. When you were a baby
Earth was as alien to you as science fiction. Made sense to your
parents however, and they took *TOTAL* care of you in it. As you grew,
you became increasingly able to assume those functions from them. Now,
you're a grownup of your own, able to not only make or break your own
way in the world, but the way for others as well -- especially those
less fortunate than yourself. This is exactly what your parents
planned (they didn't want to raise a baby forever).

Not a 100% analogy of course because God is bigger than us (we will
never rise to His level as we have risen to our parents').

Leads into into my theology of the Apocalypse (which means
"discovery", not "disaster"). Within astonomical limits, we will
ourselves determine the end of human existence. Could indeed be a
fiery (or polluted) Hell on Earth. Or could just as well be a
wonderful Heaven on Earth. Whatever it's going to be, we're going to
do it to ourselves. God's shown us the best way. If we follow His
plan, He will come back in glory to say "Congratulations. I was
beginning to think you'd *NEVER* finish. But now that you have, this
is what I'm going to do next..."

Very different from the traditional doom & gloom persepctive.

BTW: Book of Revelation (of John) is clearly written about the Church
in 1st century Rome -- at least until Chapter 21. Doom & Gloomers who
try to contort it to apply to later events in human history will thus
be forever frustrated. Remember all the people who sold their houses
in preparation of the end of the world in Y2K?
