RE: [DMCForum] Repairing the evaporator

I had a new end put on my evaporator core for $10... found a junk one in the
aluminum scrap pile at a junkyard, cut it off (free) and brought it to my
local welding shop who heli-arc welded it on in about 5 minutes for $10.

Loved that movie.

You got me on that one.

good end that I can cut off...

I bet you could find one in an old junk GM.  A hose or
hydraulic shop might have such a thing.

I have soldered aluminum before, but I'd want a lot of
practice before soldering something like that.  You can't
see how hot it's getting, and the melting point of the
solder is just under that of aluminum.  Get it too hot, and
all of it turns liquid.  I suggest finding an experienced
a/c guy to do it.
