Many of them were sold. (DMC recognized warranty claims for as early 
VINs as 560.) Others were company cars, many of which have subsequently 
been sold. Legend Industries got some of them, as did the DOT, for 
engineering purposes. (Some of those that went to the latter, of course, 
underwent crash-testing. 515, crash-tested, was even sold for parts 
afterwards.)

The first production car was VIN 500. All DeLorean authorities agree on 
this.

Since you asked "Where are they all?" Here's a partial answer gleaned 
from the dmcnews.com website. Location, where reported, is given, 
current as of 15 March 2003.

500 = A museum in Cleveland, OH.
502 = Australia.
514 = Ulster transport museum.
515 = Indiana. Purchased by Department Of Transportation. Crash tested.
517 = DOT.
520 = Company car.
528 = Dearborn Heights, MI. Legend Industries.
530 = Legend.
531 = DOT.
532 = Company car.
537 = DOT.

548 = Company car.

Many cars after VIN 647 were also company cars, including 816, proving 
false the assumption that company cars were "pre-production" or not 
intended for the public.
