I have seen a few.  I also heard something about the alternator location
being changed due to water, either from the road or from rainfall.  Whether
it was moved higher or lower I do not remember.  Or, was this just a myth?

Look again, though, this engine has the alternator on top.  My alternator is
on the bottom.
