Greg, from the above photo I can see that your heat shield
is almost totally gone.
Looks like you were hoping for a conspiracy where your car
once had a turbo? I tend to agree that you have the early
coolant hose configuration because you have an early VIN.

I think that at one point the throttle cover kit was
installed on new cars being assembled at the factory. Cars
made prior to this got the same throttle cover kit as a
recall. Or maybe I'm wrong. I could check the service
bulletins, but I'm too lazy. ;-)
There is too much deja vu between your car and Samuel's.
They are both painted red, they were both hit on the
passenger door, they are manuals.
