[DMCForum] Re: PRV's in AMC's??

Rich! Welcome back! Haven't seen your ID for a week or so. Everyone
else on Forum gave me swirlies while you were gone!

I am total AMC nut. Still drive same AMC I drove in high school.
Nobody believes a word a say, but here goes:

First, "Coronodo" is a Chrysler trademark, not AMC. American Motors
never made a Coronodo.

"Eagle" WAS American Motors. But every single AMC Eagle ever built
left Kenosha with either:
- AMC 304
- AMC 258 (toughest engine in the world)
- GM 151

After Chrysler purchased AMC -- AS AN ONGOING BUSINESS CONCERN (though
majority owned by Renault) -- they re-used several original AMC
trademarks in new cars of their own design:
- Chrysler "Spirit" is *NOTHING* like AMC Spirit (that's the car I
still drive. Is basically a re-skinned Gremlin with much plusher interior)
- Chrysler "Eagle" is *NOTHING* like AMC Eagles

Chrysler's Eagle Premier used Volvo redesigned PRV (B280). Is
significantly different than B27/B28 PRV's. Totally different
crankshaft (even fire, not odd). Heads and camshafts totally
different. Different manifold. Is EFI, not Jetronic (injectors
relocated to low profile manifold). Distributor relocated to #3
cylinder. List goes on.

B280 is a very nice engine. Smooth as silk. Lots of HP (170), but I
bet torque *ISN'T* worlds away from B27/B28. Takes advantage of
sophisticated onboard electronics.

Have seen a website with DeLorean re-engined with a B280 (from a
Premier). Try searching "DeLorean Eagle Engine" to hit it. As I recall
owner used third party EFI rather than swap Eagle computer.

Unfortunately PRV's pretty rare in US volvo's. Have seen exactly *ONE*
B28 and *ONE* B280 in all my junkyard scavaging. That's why I bought
spare engine that is STILL in back of my truck.
