Hmmm...

Actually, Rich, didn't you mention that your car was running very rich
while your wife was driving behind you?

Tuning your idle mixture in doesn't guarantee that the mixture will be
right at other speeds/loads.  I wonder what your control pressure looks
like...  If it's too high, the car is going to run too rich off-idle (or
is it the other way around...?)

able to handle the extra fuel needs under load...
