Re: [DMCForum] Bosch HR 6 DS

That would be me who said that platinum is a waste of money.

Here is a basic lesson in electrical conductivity. -- WARNING: my numbers
might be slightly off but they will show the relative scale of the
difference --

Electrical Conductivity , the higher the number the more conductive.

Silver 108
Copper 103
Gold 73
Aluminum 64
Platinum 16

As you can see silver would give you the best electrical transfer, but it
is
a little expensive to be using in a car. Since copper is so close and
much
more economical it is used in almost all electrical components, where
corrosion and hardness is not a factor.

Platinum is used for 2 reasons. First marketing, people know platinum is a
precious metal and there for are willing to pay to say they have it in
their
car. The other engineering reason it that platinum is highly resistant to
corrosion from the gasses in side the engine, and doesn't erode due to the
spark. This is how companies can say the plugs will last 100k miles.
Every
time a copper plug fires tiny bits of the electrode are blown off. As
long
as you do basic maintenance and replace the plugs every 30k miles you will
never notice a problem with them.
