Re: [DMCForum] Fuel requirements

a very interesting (though completely irrelavent) fact.

Volumetric efficiency (VE) is measured using air flow, fuel flow, and
displacement. It basically measures how much air/gas is making it into
the cylinder. The chevy 283 would "breathe" 283 ci of vapor if it had a
VE of 100%.

Efficiency rises when an engine is better tuned so that the intake works
better. ie, porting, grinding, 2 valves/cylinder, DOHC, and not as
importantly, the exhaust works better (less backpressure).

You can work backwards to figure out the VE of an engine because the VE
of the engine is directly proportional to the engine's torque. SO
basically, the higher the torque, the higher the VE for a given
displacement.
