Not so much the winner as you had the unfortunate luck of having bought
the
hard plastic kind. The advantage of what you did is that it is technically
correct and should (theoretically) outlast mine.

If you don't mind the possibility of having to replace your bushing in 5
years or so, my way should work fine.
