I have seen them put together with regular hose clamps, but this can't be

Can you describe this "in-line" connector?  I'm guessing a brass male &
female pipe thread.

I don't like the idea of going from 5/8 to 1/2 size hose.  If I were to
thread another 5/8 hose through there, it couldn't have anything crimped
on
the end.  I would rather lift the body off the frame.  But I'm not sure
