[DMCForum] [slightly off topic] foreign/domestic/JZD comments

Yes, JZD did say that in an article not long ago (I have the article at
home). I
agree that it would be a good idea. GM made a horrible mistake by the
marketing
slogan "not your father's Oldsmobile." Well, dad's Olds lasted forever and
had a
great engine -- why wouldn't we want that? I drove an Aurora not long ago
--
nice big block 8-cylinder with good handling; all in all a nice family
sedan I
thought, with enough "oomph" for my humble needs (as with most good
Olds'). Then
I heard they were discontinuing the line, and they announced it three
years in
advance -- marketing blunder #2, and I don't even deal with marketing. now
they're selling Oldsmobiles that they've had in the making, and they're
still
discontinuing the line while telling everybody not to worry, that the
parts will
be available. I can't fathom it. Oldsmobile >would< be better off by
getting
some reliable Japanese (or other "foreign") cars and selling them until
they're
back on solid ground. To see a great old name discontinued due to bad
marketing
is just a tragedy.

Sorry for the rant -- I try to work as little as possible on Fridays. :)

At any rate, at the end of the article, the interviewer asked John if the
GTO
was his legacy. "I'm still working on my legacy," was his response with a
smile.
Hmm.

Regards,
Farrar
