Re: [DMCForum] Re: engine conversion

It was just one picture, and it is not that
impressive.. It was just a test fit with the engine
suspended in the proper location to make sure it fit.

The engine is the 3.5L V6 that was used in the
Prowler.  It was used in a number of other Chrysler
cars, so it is cheap and plentiful in the bone yards.

You can look up the specs on the net, but I recall
260HP in it's stock form.  A number of aftermarket
items will boost it to the 300HP level.  I did see a
super charger for it, but because I am using the stock
gearbox 300HP will be my limit.

When I first considered a project of "increasing the
performance" of my DeLorean, I looked in to
modifications of the PRV, as well as conversions.
When I settled on Conversion, I did consider using one
of the Porsche gearboxes mostly because of the high
availability of conversion adapters available for
them.  However, (as Jim has already pointed out) the
Porsche gear boxes can get expensive.  When I priced
out what I would need, it bosted the cost of the
project beyond what I wanted.  In retrospect, if I had
used the Porsche box the project would probably be
done by now!

Duke DID do a porsche conversion, but he JUST did it.
When I started this project over 2 years ago, no one
had...  Which made it another variable that I did not
want to add in to the mix.  Again, in retrospect,
using the Porsche box would have helped me complete
the project faster.

On the bright side, when I am done this custom bell
housing will be available to others who want to copy
me.  This is one of the things I keep telling the
Mechanical Engineer who is helping me!  Maybe I will
print out this thread for him, and light a fire under
his ass.
