I know when I'm beaten, a trip to Halfords it is then. For the record
I am not adverse to getting my hands dirty, I just want to make sure
I don't add to my problems due to my (self confessed) limitations.
I do now own a full Halfords professional socket set, 99% of which
I'll never use! Certainly the cleaning of the connectors looks simple
enough when the car is supported well enough to take the wheel off.
As an aside, I am expecting my reconditioned startup regulator back
shortly. How much to get such an item 'plated' or are their
technical/practical reason not to do so?

Its probably not due to rust, but often just due to grey epoxy under

then a smear of Vaseline as you re-assemble.
I'm with Jan, buy a trolley Jack and a pair of stands, John. Its
about time you got your hands dirty!
