Dont put any r134a in a r12 system unless it has a retro fit for r134a, there is no way i would vac out a r12 system with our r134a machine, you are asking for problems,,   yes r134a will work great for a while you might be lucky and get a full year out of it, i agree with Martin stick the r12 replacment!!!!
