Re: [DML] transmission leak along flange / output shaft splines?

Jason,

I had the exact same problem on my transmission. I took the whole
transmission apart, cleaned everything and replaced all seals and gaskets. I
then reassembled everything and filled it with oil... and I have forgotten
about that last leak. It turns out that it does leak along the shaft
splines. It doesn't matter if you install new lip seals or if you use
sleeves it will still leak. What I ended up doing was to cover the splines
LIGHTLY with silicone sealant and then put the output flanges back on. Just
make sure to not use too much sealant. Otherwise it will get pushed into the
transmission when you reinsert the flanges. Go easy on it and just fill the
very bottom of each groove. It did the trick for me. No leaks.
As a matter of fact I spoke to a Renault engineer at the dealership and ask
them about this problem. He said that they just do exactly what I did. That
made me happy ;)
