[DML] Re: New window

When you get a glass shop to come to your car to install make sure they understand they are installing YOUR glass. They should primer the glass and the fiberglass before laying a bead of windshield sealer. The better shops have a heater in the truck to heat the cartridges before use. They also should use a cordless caulking gun. You use a few small rubber blocks and you may have to straighten the metal clips on the bottom that hold the glass in place till it sets. You MUST use ONLY the rubber glue pad to hold the rear view mirror in. NEVER glue the metal plate directly to the glass! Best done with the doors closed till it dries. If you want to do any work on the "A" pillars or the dash, do it BEFORE you install the windscreen. Depending on your area it is worth $80 to $150. The materiel alone (if they use the good stuff) is worth $50. To save some money you can remove and clean up all of the old glass before they come. Be REAL careful to not bump the glass on it's edge, it is VERY fragile that way!
