[DML] Re: Contemplating a Carb Swap

Let me say that, first of all, the carb swap was my idea. I wasn't influenced by Bill or anyone else into believing it's a magic cure-all for problems. What happened is that I've owned a DeLorean since 2006. In that 6-year period, I've learned a lot about the cars. The K-Jet system, however, I see only in use on the DeLorean. If I work on a Ford, I'll see the Motocraft carb; which is not dissimilar to the ones used by GM or Chrysler on the vehicles I service for a living. For me, it's only natural to make this swap. EFI doesn't appeal to me because I have no need to learn it and it makes my car immensely difficult to repair on the fly; my main reason for a carb swap.

I do not, functionality-speaking, consider a carb to be a downgrade. While it's true that I've never driven a carbed car before, it's not a concern of performance. What it boils down to is familiarity. I want the system I'm most familiar with to be the one on the car; that happens to be a carb.

There are also many very generous people out there willing to assist me in this swap; to those involved, in addition to parts compensation, drinks are on me. One way or another, I'll bring enough Cheerwine; diet and regular, for all.

Best regards,
Chad R. Krause
