Re: [DML] Contemplating a Carb Swap

For the record I gave you no advice on your european K-Jet at that time because I knew no better than to defer to Darren Bowker, a man who shafted me for a not inconsiderable sum of money not long after.

You maintain you ran k-jet successfully yet what "advice" you do offer on the subject shows a fundamental lack of understanding and I wonder if it ever worked properly (lest we forget your claim that the cold start injector is a form of carburetor - and yes, I can quote from my DML archive)

No laughing matter: speaking only for myself, if you can figure out how to install K-Jet on these zero mile crate heads (ie: no, I was not about to take them off my zero mile crate engine and drill holes in them), you are a better man than me: http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/540774_421851381193451_793740117_n.jpg

I ran Eurospec K-Jet successfully for two years prior to this engine's installation, no thanks to Martin and his best buddy Darren Bowker who gave me all kinds of bad advice (I figured out the nuances of Eurospec K-Jet on my own), but that engine developed a rot hole in the top a couple of weeks prior to DCS'04 and I had to get this one installed and running in record time to make the trip.

One characteristic of carburetion: you don't have to spend weeks & weeks or months & months trying to make it run right. I signed off on my installation the night before driving to Tennessee via Virginia. #5939 wouldn't have been at DCS'04 otherwise.

You can diagnose almost any problem with an $80 fuel pressure tester. The shop manual is surprisingly complete and taught me 95% of what I needed to know to totally rebuild and tune 3 DMC fuel systems so far. I've asked questions for free and learned from them. K-Jet is only expensive if you shotgun replace parts. A well-tuned K-Jet will have no trouble at all in hot stop and go traffic. I would guess a carb car would vapor lock long before K-Jet, as factory tuned, would even hiccup.
