[DML] Back to the Future screenings - New York and California

FYI should any local groups want to arrange meet ups.

"Back to the Future," will be shown at Rome's Capitol Theatre (220 W. Dominick St.) on Tuesday, July 5, at 7 pm. The special screening is sponsored by City of Rome Parks & Recreation Department.

The comedy concerns a troubled teen (Michael J. Fox) in the 1980's who, thanks to the efforts of a zany inventor (Christopher Lloyd), is sent back to the year 1955. After the teen accidentally prevents his parents from meeting, he has to act as matchmaker for the couple, or else he will never be born! Others in the cast of the Robert Zemeckis-directed film (co-authored by Zemeckis and Bob Gale) include Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson, and Wendie Jo Sperber. "Back to the Future" was produced by Steven Spielberg and was one of the biggest box office hits of the 1980s.

Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide calls the film a "wonderful, whacked-out time-travel movie," while IGN DVD says, "'Back to the Future' is one of the best popcorn movies ever made. Its ingenuity, time-traveling twist-ups and wonderfully vibrant characters resonate in ways few films ever achieve."

"Back to the Future" will be seen in a 35mm print from Universal Pictures on the Capitol's 40-ft wide screen with authentic carbon arc illumination. The special admission price is $1.00. Tickets are available at the door or in advance from the Capitol box office. Additional information is available from the Capitol at (315) 337-6453.

The second movie in the City of Rome Parks & Recreation Department's Summer Movie Night series is "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," which will be shown at the Capitol Theatre on July 19 at 7 pm.

The Capitol Theatre is a 1,788-seat theater in downtown Rome, New York. Originally opened as a movie palace in 1928, the theater currently offers a wide variety of entertainment programming, including live events and film screenings.
