RE: [DML] AC Compressor blows a back plate?

Jake, Recommending a compressor that is 30+ years old to young folks that
soak up this information and don't know parts like you and I do to me is not
good info.
Here is what you said no matter what your experience is with a 30+ year old
compressor or not. Sanden who makes them say's they don't recommend them
after 5 years.(( My personal favorite )) sounds like a recommendation from
you and when you said Hervey's fits well sounds like there may be trouble
fitting mine. You just had to drop that little bit of doubt on mine.
You could have said nothing about where to by but said you have your choice
of NOS or NEW. I think people would get the idea.

(( For compressors, you either have NOS from DMC (DMC Midwest is my personal
favorite) if you want the original factory look, or Hervey will sell you new
compressors that fit as well.))

Call Sanden to verify what I said and you will see what I mean whether they
buy it from any Sanden source. At least buy a new one. Not NOS or old and be
careful on Ebay or Craig's list parts that won't have the correct back head.

John,

Keep in mind that I am the only one of the two of us who is an unbiased
source.
I didn't push anything.  I told Paul what his two options were (yours
included).  You'll never hear me criticize a new compressor, but Sanden is a

biased source also (considering they've already made their money off the
leftover pile of DMC's original compressors).

My 30-year-old compressor is still working just fine, and it has been in a
lot
worse environment than a warehouse (namely, my engine bay).  I don't
appreciate
the criticism considering I am one of the handful of people on this list
that
can tell you first-hand what still works on a DeLorean after 100,000 miles.

Paul made the decision that was right for him, and that's all I care about.
I
didn't write that response to make money (though I'd be happy to take any
that
people send me for no reason).

Jake,
I know your trying to help put pushing or recommending a 30 year old R12
compressors that is sold by others is not good for the consumer. People that
don't know about compressors as to what happens on the inside of them after
30 years of sitting in hot and cold warehouses when all the nitrogen gas
that they were packed with has leaked out and they say are no longer
recommended for resale.
Sanden told me after about 5 years they don't recommend selling any
compressor. People that buy them off Ebay and other places trying to save a
buck and not knowing about compressors are prone to fail quicker.
Call the technical department at Sanden and they will explain further. Oh,
brand new compressors that Sanden has are identical in every way. They come
with a universal back head that has to be changed because the De Lorean
back head is obsolete. They being Sanden haven't sold R12 compressors for
about 10 years now.
