[DML] Re: buying through ebay

eBay rules of thumb - bad cars get bid too high, good cars don't often get the full value (i.e. they can be a good deal for the buyer). I've seen some really bad deals, not necessarily due to ebay but due to buying sight unseen or getting caught in a bidding war, or just plain lying thieving sellers. I've seen some surprisingly good deals where the car is in a remote location and/or not described accurately.

Sight unseen is OK on a known "project" car, but I would always want to see, in person, something I was paying real money for and actually expected to drive right away.

As a seller I'd much rather have someone come in and inspect the car I was selling so there are no ambiguities on details and condition.

So - Ebay is not necessarily better or worse than any other sales venue as long as you do your due diligence and don't get caught up in the excitment of bidding.
