Farrar, If everything is kept clean as possible so there is very little
friction and strain on the gears then it might last longer. My original
lasted to about 55K mile before it went. 
Make sure you have the short 26" cable coming off the angle drive and it has
the support 106645 that goes with it. Page 5/1/1

My car had its original speedometer replaced with a 140mph unit a few 
years ago. The angle drive was replaced at that time. Since then I have 
had no problems. Perhaps the previous owner was on to something!
