RE: [DML] Re: Stalled in traffic

Whenever you have trouble starting, or re-starting the car, you need to listen carefully for the fuel pump kicking on. Everyone should get familiar with the sound, if you can hear it. You can on most cars I have seen.

When you go to start the car, turn the key to run, but not start (yet). You should hear a hum from the trunk area, it will last for about a second and then stop. This is normal. Get used to the sound, listen for it.

Whenever the car cranks, but doesn't start, listen for that hum. It helps a lot to immediately know if its the fuel pump.

A fuel pump not running can be a sign of a bad fuse, a bad rpm relay, bad electrical connection (particularly at the pump wiring harness or the rollover switch), a clogged and overheated pump, or a bad/tripped rollover switch. If the problem goes away after a while, think clogged pump.
