[DML] Re: Need Cooling Fan Help

There are a couple of things to check. Make sure both fans are tight
on their shafts and turning in the correct direction, ie, they blow
air out towards the rear. If you have the older configuration with the
otterstadt switch on the top of the pipe you need to update it to the
newer configuration. Upgrade the circuit breaker for the cooling fans.
Remove and jumper the Fan Fail relay. To properly bleed air out of the
system it is much easier if you have a Coolant System Pressure Tester.
You pressurize the system and then bleed the air out at the water pump
and the radiator. If your system keeps getting airbound you either
have a coolant leak or you popped a head gasket. You can also make
sure the radiator is not full of debris blocking the air. It can be
hard to see if the junk is in between the condensor coil and the
radiator. If the fans never come on you can test the otterstadt
switch. Put a continuity tester on it and heat it up in some water
with a thermometer. It should be "open" till around 180 or so at which
point it should "close" or have continuity. The thing is just a switch
that is sensitive to temperature. If it never closes, get another,
good one.
