RE: [DML] Re: Want a DeLorean

As I said, Some may disagree. Many shops will not do engine swaps because
of the nature of the problems and unexpected results. Those shops that are
ready and willing are often specialty hot rod shops and their hourly rate
(if they don't charge by quote) is generally way more than $100. There is
also a fit and finish issue. No disrespect intended as I do not know you or
your work, but I have seen many engine swaps done by "the shop down the
road" and I have never seen one done as well as some good specialty/hot rod
shop. One of the signs of a top notch engine swap is that when you get the
vehicle back it comes with wiring diagrams, large amounts of documentation,
performance rebuilt engine looking brand new, some sort of warranty, and the
engine looks and fits as though it is original.

This is just my opinion, I have very high standards when it comes to custom
work. I have done engine swaps and, granted, my work has not always come to
this standard, but those engine swaps that I have done have been for me, and
not others. If someone is paying another person then certain standards need
to be met. In order to meet these standards there is a lot more time
involved than the work on the car physically pulling the engine and putting
in the new one.

"Pay someone to do an engine swap $10000 - $25000"

What?! I can do a motor swap in a weekend, in my driveway. Eagle
3.0's are no more than $500, and the time/labor involve should be no
more than 10-12 hrs I would think. Even at $100/hr labor that's still
WAY under $2k for a motor swap. Add in some fine tuning and that'll
bring in your other $500 to make $2k.
