I would remove the left front tire and pull the dust cap off the spindle
for the angle drive.  These are in short supply - currently only
available in Europe for an arm, two legs, and an ear.  If your angle
drive started to fail when you were driving it you might notice the
needle bouncing in time to lube and save the drive, or not, but towing
it 3000 miles will put 3000 miles of use on the angle drive, and make
the odometer show an extra 3k miles where the car was only towed, not
driven.  I know this opens us up to a huge debate on whether or not the
mileage while being towed "counts".  Sidestepping that debate as a
matter of personal judgement, I'd save my angle drive the anguish.   If
you blow it out your car will never show true miles anyway.

I'm about to leave on a trip of about 3000 miles and I plan to tow my D 
behind the motorhome. Mine is an '81 standard trans. I have a tow 
dolly on which I'll plant (and strap down) the front wheels, dragging 
the rear, in neutral, behind. I've figured out a way to strap the rear 
tow-lights on the small louvers of the rear engine (louvered) cover 
without damage and I have a "toad stop" brake system to apply a little 
braking pressure to the D's system when slowing sharply (a common way 
to stay legal and safe while towing a vehicle - made by Blue Ox). My 
motorhome has quite a bit of rear overhang, mud flaps and grass skirt 
so there's never been any problem (towing other cars) with junk kicked 
up damaging the front of the towed car. Anybody know of any concerns I 
should have with this setup?
