RE: [DML] Re: Fuel Accumulator

Roland,
The accumulator has a rubber diaphragm inside it. If you're buying the 30
year old NOS from Houston or part of the cartel then that's why it doesn't
last long and that why they sell them so cheap. They are trying to get rid
of them at the owner's expense.
I sell a brand new Bosch for $119.00 and a 5 year warranty. Yes I'm more
money but it's brand new not 30 years old.
I have never had one come back defective.

I am not sure that my fuel accumulator is lasting 20 years. I purchased the
car in 2004 and replaced the fuel accumulator. It is four years and
approximately 2500 miles later. When I park the car for one-half hour to a
little over an hour, it becomes difficult to start requiring several seconds
of the engine turning over and then it starts rather timidly.

What may be causing that?

More likely they employ TWO fuel pumps. One in the tank (or very
nearby) which is called the "Transfer Pump" and another to boost the
pressure up to full line pressure. The system won't work without both
pumps running. Are you proposing we trade the accumulator for a second
fuel pump? The system we have is just fine till the parts get old and
fail. A new accumulator will probably last another 20 years. Will a
fuel pump?
