The author in most cases owns the copyright unless the copyright is sold or
negotiated in the contract to the publisher. I wroth and owned the copyright
on a book I published in 1990 and after 5 years of sales and ownership I
sold it to the publisher. Now it's his book to do with what he wants and I'm
out of the picture. Think of it as a car title somewhat.
