Lotus had little to do with the quality of the Delorean. The Delorean
was built to a certain price-point so the interior was NOT covered in
leather and DMC used a lot of "bin" parts from other cars to keep the
price down. Some choices were not made so much for quality or
longevity (no one planned for these cars to last 25 years!) but for
availablity and price. What Lotus did they did well. They engineered a
car that had the handling of a Lotus and could be assembled by an
inexperienced factory full of people that never worked on cars before.
