RE: [DML] Sputter and Cough! - All the way home.....

Possibly. I would also look at the control pressure regulator.Joe KuchanTo: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx: outatime81@xxxxxxxxxxxxx: Sun, 26 Aug 2007 13:56:17 +0000Subject: [DML] Sputter and Cough! - All the way home.....

On my way home from the Northeast Exotic show, my car started to
sputter and cough blowing out a light black smoke. I went through
3/4 of a tank of gas in about 60 miles. Sounds like it's running too
rich and blowing through gas.

It would sometimes "catch" a good breath and smooth out only to begin
a downward spiral with even pressure on the gas pedal. I was losing
power, but then when I would "punch it" it would sputter up to speed
while putting out the light colored black smoke. This was happening
periodically for the past 4 weeks only in the mornings. I thought it
was either bad gas or a clogged fuel filter (which I replaced at the
beginning of the season). Seeing how much gas it used in the last 60
miles of my trip I don't think that's the problem. Idle was ok for
the most part with a few stalls at traffic lights. It started right
up however.

Any ideas? O2 sensor?

Thanks

Tom
